Living finishes such as Polished and Brushed Brass develop a natural patina over time.
The standard door hinge, mortised into the door edge and frame.
Hinge types explained:
| Hinge type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Parliament hinge | Projects the door clear of the frame or architrave so it can swing back fully against the wall used where a door must open 180 or clear deep reveals. |
| Ball bearing hinge | Bearings between the knuckles carry the load, reducing friction and wear. Best for heavy and high-use doors, including entrance doors. |
| Loose pin hinge | The pin can be withdrawn so the door lifts off without unscrewing the hinge. Internal use handy for bathrooms and for removing doors during work. |
| Fixed pin hinge | The pin is fixed in the knuckle. A reliable all-rounder for most internal doors. |
| Butt hinge | The standard door hinge, mortised into the door edge and frame. |
| Lift-off hinge | The leaves separate so the door lifts off. Handed order left or right hand to suit the door. |
Three hinges per door is standard for internal and entrance doors. Heavier and taller doors may require a fourth.
