I managed to install the new latch leaving some of the original parts in place.

ONLY WORKS with the square type of extrusion framing – LOOKING for another solution for the earlier rounded extrusion profile SEE BLOG HERE

This is the only possible solution I could find to make it work:

In order to cover the existing slots (Pic.1) and to have the handle stop short of the stop on the frame

The new item needs to be cut and filed down as shown on Pic.2 (circled in Red) and a hole needs to be drilled as close as possible to the edge for the old shaft to insert (Circled green).

I was concerned about snipping the plate but since its supported and fixed top and bottom it doesnt seem to have compromised strength of function, you will understand what I mean once you have one in youhave one in your hand.
